Certain Kinds Of Cigarettes Will Be Banned In Ireland From This Weekend

A new directive issued by the European Union regarding the selling of cigarettes and tobacco is coming into place from tomorrow in all EU countries.

The new laws ban misleading words from appearing on the cigarette packs such as “organic” or “less harmful than others”.

This is only one of several new rules. Packs of cigarettes must also be a minimum of 30g, allowing for more heath warnings. The health warnings must cover 65% of the pack.

Rolling tobacco with flavours such as menthol and fruit flavours will also be outlawed.

Electronic cigarettes and their refill containers will be regulated once this directive comes into place.

It’s understood that companies have 12 months to sell existing stock before they must fully adhere to these new rules.
