The law is meant to expire on the 31st May.

With the breakout of coronavirus, temporary laws to allow the sale of alcohol in outdoor seating areas came into effect to help the hospitality sector. For much of summer 2020 and 2021, restaurants and pubs could only be enjoyed in an outdoor setting.

This legislation is meant to cease at the end of May; however, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee hopes to extend it for the summer season. This would allow pubs and restaurants to operate and sell alcohol outdoors for summer 2022.

According to RTÉ News, “Minister McEntee believes that extending its provisions will support the industry as it continues to recover from the pandemic.”

Minister McEntee seeks to extend the legislation for another six months, bringing us up to the end of November 2022.
