BREAKING: Over 50 Arrests Made In Kilkenny As Part Of Operation Thor

James Fenton

51 people were arrested between January 23rd and 25th across the Kilkenny region, according to KCLR FM.

Nine premises were searched under warrants issued under the Criminal Justice (Theft & Fraud Offences) Act 2001, and the Misuse of Drugs Act.

16 of the arrests were executed for crime incidents, while the other 35 were carried out on warrant.

Operation Thor is an crime prevention strategy set up by the Gardaí set up in November 2015. Speaking of the arrests, Superintendent Paraic Dunne said:

“There were two significant seizures of drugs in the Callan area for sale and supply – heroin and cannabis. In Ballyragget village we have also had a seizure of drugs in relation to sale and supply and that’s heroin.

This morning in the Hebron area of Kilkenny City, we did an operation in relation to the suspected theft of fuel and power tools. We’ve recovered approximately €3,000 worth of diesel which we suspect to have been stolen and we’ve also recovered gas cylinders, power tools and chainsaws.”
