Penneys to reopen all 36 Irish stores next week with extended business hours

Wanting to help cut down on the pre-Christmas shopping stress, it’s hoped that the extended hours will also reduce queuing times across all stores.

If you’ve been saving doing some of your Christmas shopping until Penneys reopens, then good news as they’ll throw their doors open once again in just a few days time.

Announcing that they will reopen all Irish stores on December 1st, the retailer has confirmed it will also extend trading hours in all branches ahead of the festive season – including 24 hour trading in two stores.

All city centre locations along with branches in major shopping centres will be allowed to stay open until 10pm on weekdays, while Penneys shops on main streets in towns across Ireland/in town shopping centres will stay open until 9pm during the week.

Penneys stores in Dundrum Town Centre and Blanchardstown Centre will open at 7am on Tuesday, 1st December and trade right through to closing time on Wednesday, 2nd December.

The new confirmed Penneys opening hours from 1st December are as follows: 

  • Town Centre (main streets) stores will trade until 9pm on weekdays
    Stores: Dun Laoghaire, Wexford, Sligo, Drogheda, Newbridge, Clonmel, Ballina, Killarney
  • Town Shopping Centre stores will trade until 9pm
    Stores: Navan, Mullingar, Portlaoise, Ennis, Letterkenny, Galway Shopping Centre, Kilkenny, Santry, Artane, Tralee, Castlebar, Longford, Athlone, Dundalk, Carlow
    Until 9.30pm: Limerick-Dooradoyle
  • Major Shopping Centres will trade until 10pm
    Stores: Galway-Eyre Square, Swords, Cork-Wilton, Dundrum, Blanchardstown, Liffey Valley, Nutgrove
  • City-Centre Stores the majority will trade until 10pm
    Stores: Dublin – Mary Street, Limerick-O’Connell Street, Waterford, Cork–Patrick Street, Dublin -O’Connell Street
  •  24-hour trading
    Penneys will open in Dundrum Town Centre and Blanchardstown Centre from 7am on Tuesday, 1st December and trade right through until closing time on Wednesday, 2nd December.

Catering for the anticipated higher customer demand following weeks of closure, public health is still the highest priority for the retailer with Penneys officials reassuring shoppers that all stores will continue to have extensive safety measures in place. This includes strict social distancing protocols, limits on the number of customers allowed in store, hand sanitisation stations on entry, perspex screens/cubicles at tills, mandatory use of face masks in-store and increased in-store cleaning.

Saying that the are “delighted” to reopen with extended business hours, Penneys CEO Paul Marchant commented:

“All of our extensive safety measures remain in place to help ensure shopping at Penneys is an enjoyable, safe experience for everyone.”
