A 20 ft whale has been found washed up on the shore on Arranmore Island off the coast of Co. Donegal.
The whale is believed to be a male fin whale and locals believe he has been dead a few weeks due to the pinkish colour of his normally slate grey skin.
Nora Flanagan, Press Officer with the Arranmore Lifeboat, told Highland Radio today that they have discovered a “huge big whale and it’s starting to decompose so there’s quite a smell off it. We’re hoping now that the carcass will be removed.”
Arranmore Blue Ferry posted the photos to their Facebook page along with a post that read “This fine whale washed up on Bealach Chraois overnight. At least 20 metres long. Sad to see one of nature’s wonders in this way.”
