Revolut has emailed customers across Europe to warn that Brexit could have an effect on the way the app works.
When the firm was founded in 2015, it was with a view that money should be ‘borderless’ and offers banking with no exchange rate or international transfer fees, though Brexit is raising concerns about how that might continue.
The message from the online banking app began, ‘We know this is a pain,’ and explained that many people would likely have to resubmit new ID documents in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
It asked customers to send in a new selfie or a photo of their passport as driving licences would no longer be accepted as a form of ID.
They wrote, ‘Right now, all of our customers in Europe are tied to our UK Electronic Money License, which we have passported across the European Economic Area.’
‘If a no deal outcome were to happen, we would no longer be able to passport this licence across Europe.’
It also stated, ‘Unfortunately, this EU-based licence does not recognise a driving licence as a valid form of ID.’
