O'Connor's family issued a statement following her passing on July 26th.
She is survived by her three children. Her son Shane sadly died by suicide at the age of 17.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."
Police also issued a statement following the singer's death. They found her body at her home in London.
"Police were called at 11:18 hrs on Wednesday, 26 July to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area. Officers attended. A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Next of kin have been notified. The death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the Coroner."
Vigils have been held in both Dublin and London following the singer's heartbreaking death.
Fans across the UK and Ireland have gathered to pay their respects to the late Sinéad O'Connor after she sadly passed away on Wednesday at age 56.
