Sinn Féin is calling for the voting age to be lowered from 18 to 16.

According to BreakingNews.ie, the party wants to mark International Youth Day by lowering the voting age and insists that the government must act on this issue if it is serious about listening to our young people.

"The previous Labour and Fine Gael government made a commitment that they would consider holding a referendum on lowering the age to 16 to come out and vote. I would appeal to them to commit to that and start to engage with our young people and get them involved in the decision making which affects their futures."

Denise Mitchell, spokesperson for Children and Youth Affairs
