Met Eireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for six coastal counties which is due to come into effect this evening.
The counties in question are Kerry, Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal and they have been grouped into three pairs with the warning for each pair being valid from a different time.
The warning for Clare and Kerry is valid from 7pm on Thursday until 5pm on Friday with ‘gusts of 90 to 110 km/h, mainly in coastal areas and on exposed hills and mountains.’

Galway and Mayo’s warning takes hold from 9pm on Thursday until 9pm on Friday with ‘south to southeast winds, veering southwesterly early on Friday will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h, occasionally higher in coastal areas and on exposed hills and mountains.’
Finally, the warning for Donegal and Sligo will be valid from 6am on Friday until 9pm on Friday with ‘mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h, especially in coastal areas and on exposed hills and mountains.’
