Get ready for a seriously cold few days ahead because Met Éireann has issued a snow and ice warning for the whole of Ireland, starting from tonight.

We can expect ‘very cold’ conditions over the coming days with widespread frost and minimum temperatures of -1°C predicted in some places tonight.

The status yellow warning comes into effect at 9pm tonight and will stay in place until 7pm on Tuesday.

The Met Éireann warning reads, ‘Icy and slippery conditions expected due to accumulation of ice and snow on untreated surfaces.

‘Scattered sleet and snow showers most frequent across Ulster and Connacht will occur but some showers penetrating into central and eastern areas at times with the odd flurry further south.

‘Accumulations generally 1-2cm expected. Wintry showers becoming confined to northern areas by late evening.’

A Met Éireann forecaster also confirmed some areas will see a “light dusting of snow” tomorrow morning, while temperatures on Tuesday night will plummet as low as -2°C.

They said, “Scattered wintry showers continuing into Tuesday with a light dusting of snow to begin the day in parts.

“Showers will become confined to Atlantic counties later in the day with bright winter sunshine at times too. Feeling raw with highest temperatures of 2°C to 5°C, in moderate, occasionally gusty northwest breezes.”
