PIC: Temperatures To Reach As Low As -5 Next Week As Country Also Prepares For “Accumulations Of Snow”

Darragh Berry

Midlands Weather has said that some of the country will experience “some accumulations of snow” this week.

In a post on their Facebook page, the experts stated that:

“Conditions are expected to become very windy or stormy for a time tonight and into the early hours of Sunday morning, with coastal areas of the west, north and eventually the east seeing winds approaching 120 km/h.

Further inland across the Midlands winds will typically range between 80-90 km/h, however some isolated gusts of up to 100-110 km/h are possible as well, especially across the north Midlands and in exposed locations.

It will also turn noticeably colder overnight and through Sunday with temperatures falling back to the low single figures. Frost won’t be an issue however as the winds will prevent temperatures from going below freezing.

Heavy thundery showers will spread from the Atlantic, crossing the country on the back of Gale force winds, which will gradually ease off during tomorrow. Some of the showers will be wintry in nature, especially through Sunday night, Monday and Tuesday.

Indeed some parts of the north and northwest, including the north Midlands May see some accumulations of snow at time between Sunday night and Wednesday. Temperatures by day will only range between 2-4 degrees in northern areas, but closer to 6-7 in more southern areas.

Beyond that our weather looks set to remain unsettled, with temperatures below average for the time of year, night frosts and some ice, with a continued risk of some wintry precipitation, especially across the north, northwest and over higher ground.

I will continue to keep you posted as always.”

Met Eireann has also added that Wednesday night will drop to as low as -5 degrees and that “Tuesday will be very cold with outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow which will later clear to scattered wintry showers.”

Get out the hot water bottle, folks.
