LISTEN: Ireland’s Champion Rowers Piled In For A Hilarious Radio Interview Last Night

James Fenton

Ireland IS still only getting used to the whirlwinds that are interviews with Olympic silver medalists the O’Donovan brothers.

Gary and Paul from Skibbereen in Cork shot to international fame last year with their irreverent and unrehearsed takes on their exploits in Rio.

Now, after the European Championships in the Czech Republic at the weekend, we’ve learned that the lads have a couple of doppelgangers.

Mark O’Donovan (no relation) and Shane O’Driscoll won gold in the Men’s Lightweights and have been sprung into the national consciousness much in the same way that Skibbereen siblings were last year.

Denise Walsh, also from Skibbereen Rowing Club, took home a medal of her own but sadly was absent from the interview which aired last night on Newstalk’s ‘Off The Ball.’

Perhaps she was in need of a rest after spending a weekend with this frantic foursome?

The lads in the studio struggled to keep pace with the Skibbereen shower and it made for hilarious radio.

Spare a few minutes of your lunch break to take a listen if you haven’t already.
