Weekends away and strolls by the beach are all well and good but if you’re looking to take your staycation to the next level, we have the event for you.
The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series takes place in Inis Mór this June and will see the world’s elite male and female cliff divers tackle three seconds of acrobatic freefall off the rugged coastline.
Words really don’t do this justice though, you’ve got to see it for yourself…
From 70ft – 90 ft in height, divers will reach speeds more than 85km/h as they leap from Poll Na Péist (Serpent’s Lair) on the island before meeting the wild Atlantic below. Â
As well as jumping from nearly three times the height of the Olympic platform, the divers will attempt a host of artistic tricks in order to get their hands on the world title.
Gary Hunt (UK) and Rhiannan Iffland (AUS) are the current reigning champions and will be hoping to kick off this season’s campaign in style in the Aran Islands.
The event takes place on Saturday 24 June and will be followed by heats in Portugal, Italy, the US, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Chile.
