WATCH: Cork teenager defeats Ronnie O’Sullivan and mentions infamous interview as motivation

Aaron Hill – Remember the name. The Cork teenager sprung himself into the limelight last night by defeating snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan in the European Masters.

At 18-years-old, Aaron Hill is a name that most snooker fans wouldn’t have heard of until last night. The youngster went 3-1 up before Ronnie came back to lead 4-3, however, the Corkman got there in the end to seal a hugely-impressive victory.

Wait a minute though. Let’s take a few steps back. We were under the impression that young snooker players weren’t up to standard and that’s the reason that O’Sullivan and his fellow veterans keep winning all the big prizes? Like, that’s what was implied in the below interview with the man himself which went viral back in August…

“The younger players are not that good really. They’re so bad.”

Really, Ronnie? Well, this 18-year-old Corkman who wasn’t born when you won your first World Championship would beg to differ. Aaron Hill spoke well after last night’s match and cited Ronnie’s infamous interview as a source of motivation for his victory. You can listen to his post-match thoughts below…

O’Sullivan clearly didn’t take good old-fashioned Cork determination into account when he aired he views, did he? We look forward to seeing what Aaron Hill does next in his bid the topple the old folks off the top of the snooker game. In the short-term, he faces 43-year-old Matthew Stevens in the next round of the Masters and the whole of Ireland will be keeping a close watch.
