An Taoiseach Micheál Martin has stated this morning that a high level of Covid-19 restrictions will remain in place until Easter at least.

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast today, Martin said that while the focus over the coming weeks will be on reopening schools and construction, “certainly, until after Easter, we’re looking at a high level of restrictions.”

When pressed if this meant current Level 5 restrictions will remain in place until Easter, An Taoiseach responded: “People can assume that. We’ll certainly take stock of stock over the next two weeks of in terms of how the virus is evolving.” Easter Sunday falls on April 4 this year and the current set of Level 5 measures are scheduled to expire on March 5.

Martin also spoke to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland this morning and said that discussions will take place over the planned reopening of schools ahead of the Easter holidays, which are due to begin on March 29.
