The Flu Crisis Is Set To Cause Major Problems As Schools Reopen

kaylawalsh

The ongoing flu crisis is set to cause major problems as schools reopen, principals have warned.

A shortage of substitutes means no cover for sick teachers, who could feel under pressure to come into work.

There are 200 fewer substitute teachers available than there were this time last year, The Independent reports.

“Teachers are going to get sick,” said David Ruddy, president of the Irish Primary Principals’ Network (IPPN).

“If you are in a class of 30 and 10 of them are sneezing, within the whole school setup it’s rife for infection.

“We don’t have enough subs as it is without this flu crisis.”

Teachers and children suffering from the virus have been advised to stay at home for five days from when the flu symptoms began.
