The Gardai Are Looking For Applicants To Join The Force As Armed Police

Have you always wanted to become a member of An Garda Siochana? Well, now could be your perfect chance.

Not only are they recruiting, they’re looking for people to join as a special armed member of the force as 

Applicants must be a ‘Fitter Turner holding an Advanced Certificate Craft – Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitting at level 6 (NFQ) or an equivalent recognised qualification.’

Candidates must also be a qualified Armourer with a minimum of 5 years experience and hold certification in a range of handguns, rifles and other automatic and semi-automatic weapons. 

You also have to hold a full Class B Irish driving licence or equivalent with no endorsements.

And the salary? (which incorporates rent allowance):  €48,512.30

Here’s what some of your responsibilities will be:

• Repair and maintenance of all official weapons within the force• Involvement with the research and development of new police weapon systems and ancillary equipment
• Test-firing of new and repaired weapons
• Maintaining complete and accurate records regarding repairs and parts associated with firearms repairs
• Acceptance testing of ammunition at point of manufacture
• Liaising with specialist units, external Government Departments and other agencies and suppliers
• Being prepared to undergo all of the approved courses relevant to the section
