A naturist bicycle ride is taking place in County Cork in June.

The World Naked Bike Ride will see riders cross the city by bicycle, encouraged to go nude entirely or be bodypainted.

The WNBR will take place on Saturday, June 8.

The World Naked Bike Ride started in 2001, when six cyclists died in separate road accidents in Zaragoza, Spain.

Protesting the deaths of the cyclists, friends cycled naked for an afternoon to reiterate how vulnerable a cyclist is in a collision, and as a means of guaranteeing that motorists would notice them on this day at least.

The bike ride grew to become a global phenomenon and has gone on to take place in more than 100 cities.

Anyone wishing to participate in the cycle this year can register at [email protected]
