These are the 18 countries that have been added to Ireland’s mandatory quarantine list

The Government has added 18 countries to its list of coronavirus ‘high risk’ countries, with passengers arriving from these places now having to quarantine for 14 days.

Brazil and South Africa have been on the list since February 5 and today Angola, Austria, Botswana, Burundi, Cape Verde, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Eswatini, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates, Zambia and Zimbabwe have been added.

Speaking about the additions, Health Minster Stephen Donnelly said: “under the current Level 5 restrictions, nobody should be engaging in non-essential travel at this time. These stringent measures on people arriving to Ireland from 20 states are necessary in responding to the risks posed by variants of concern.”

Earlier this week, it emerged that the Government is planning to increase the fine for undertaking non-essential travel to €2,000 from €500. You can find out more about current travel restrictions via this link.
