New languages that will be added to the Leaving Cert curriculum include exciting and current options such as Chinese, Polish, Lithuanian and Portuguese.
The new language choices are aimed at helping students prepare for the rise of non-Western countries and the increasing need to be proficient in another European language.
The introduction of Polish, Lithuanian and Portuguese will be classified as “heritage languages” on the Leaving Cert curriculum, aimed at immigrant communities.
Mandarin Chinese will ensure that students are prepared for business markets in the future.
