These Irish Friends Escaped Unharmed From Kos Earthquake Thanks To One Lucky Decision

James Fenton

The Greek island of Kos is reeling today after a 6.5 magnitude earthquake on Thursday night left two people dead and more than 120 injured.

The island has always been a popular destination for Irish holidaymakers and one group of friends escaped potentially disastrous consequences largely thanks to one simple decision.

Paddy Leonard from Dublin shared the following post on Twitter explaining how they have attended the White Corner pub every night since their arrival on Saturday except for last night when tragedy struck.

The two men who died were at the same pub when the earthquake happened. Paddy, who is holidaying with three other Dubliners told the Irish Independent:

“”It was just so surreal. It’s the last thing you expect on holiday but thankfully we’re all okay, we’re all alive.

Paddy and his friends had decided to stay in on Thursday night and he explained how they felt the force of the quake.

“The whole building was shaking and the waves were coming out of the pool.

““It was mad. We’re all in a bit of shock.”
