New Census data shows that unemployment rates above the national average of 12.9% are highest in young workers aged 15 to 34, and among older workers aged 55-64 years.

The Irish Independent reports that eight out of ten unemployment blackspots in the country - which is where unemployment rates exceeds 27% - are in Limerick City.

The county with the highest unemployment rate is Longford.

The Census also showed that the number of people at work rose by almost 200,000, with the biggest employment seen in human health social work.
