This Pub Chain Will Be The First In Ireland To Show Calorie Information For Its Drinks

Sarah

It’s good news for Ireland’s booze loving calorie counters, as popular UK pub chain Wetherspoon is introducing calorie information on alllll its drinks from March 8th.

It will roll out the info on all its menus and website in over 900 pubs across Ireland  (it has three pubs in in Dublin, and one in Cork) and the UK.

It might come as a bit of a shock to some just how many calories certain alcoholic beverages actually contain.

One glass of Merlot, for example, has 122 calories, a pint of regular cider has 230 calories, and if you’re watching your figure then don’t even think about taking a sip of a Piña Colada, which can contain up to 650 calories a glass!

A rum and diet coke, however, has roughly 65 calories making it a solid choice for dieters.

Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said that: ‘We want our customers to have as much information as possible so that they can make informed decisions about the food and drink they enjoy at our pubs.

‘We were the first pub company to highlight the number of calories on all of our meals and it seems a logical step to now do this for all the drinks that our pubs serve.’

Either hit the gym after your night out, or shield your eyes from the calorie-laden truth folks.
