This ‘Ryan Air’ Competition On Facebook Is A Complete Scam

James Fenton

In the immortal words of Father Ted Crilly, “this contest is a sham and a fraud and a… sham!”

If you’ve entered this ‘Ryan Air’ competition to win a package holiday for four people, it’s best not to get get your hopes up.

A page posing as the low fares airline posted the following on January 9:

“BEAT THE JANUARY BLUES

We are giving away an ALL INCLUSIVE package holiday for upto 4 persons to almost any destination of your choice!

Your stay is for 10 nights and all drinks and meals catered for, all you have to do is relax!

And don’t worry about having to take time off work as you also choose when you go!

And if that’s not enough to shake the January blues, we’ll chuck in 5K to spend as you wish!

To be In with a chance you must LIKE OUR PAGE, SHARE THIS POST, AND COMMENT ‘WIN’ and we’ll announce our winner January 31st. Good Luck!”

As amazing as that sounds, we hate to spoil the party. Here’s the real Ryanair Facebook page which offers nothing of the sort.

Now we’re not exactly claiming to be Sherlock Holmes here but what got us on the scent?

Allow us to explain:

1) The use of two words for ‘Ryan Air’ rather then ‘Ryanair’.

2) The lack of a blue Facebook verification tick, which is usually a good indicator.

It’s likely the imposters are trying to build up enough of an audience before rebranding to something else on the sly and to be fair they seem to be achieving their goal so far.

There’s a lot of dishonest people out there, folks! Safe internetting.
