You always remember your best meals.
Be they by surprise or wholly expected, these divine experiences stay with you in the most flavoursome of ways.
And flavoursome memories they are, the kind I experience upon thinking back on my meal in Barrtrá Seafood restaurant, Lahinch.
Down a tiny winding road, that still proudly somehow boasts an 80km/h sign (Ireland) is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to.
Housed in a cosy establishment that you’d happily host your wedding reception in, this incredible place is situated overlooking the wild Atlantic waves and the rugged beauty of Liscannor Bay.
The O’Brien family have been running Barrtrá Seafood Restaurant since 1988. Located on the Miltown Malbay road, just 3.5km outside Lahinch, here is where you’ll find the best sunsets in the country, bar none.
And yes, considering their dangerously close proximity to some of the best piscine produce in the world, expectations are high from the get-go.
And bloody hell, does Barrtrá deliver.
Almost everything is grown fresh on-site or within walking distance, with a huge emphasis on locally sourced goods.
The fish will have exited the briny deep sheer hours before ingestion, guaranteeing freshness with every bite.
Personally, I still dream about the scallops I had during my brief time here – and will probably never have as good a lot again.
And it’s not all fish…
Barrtrá also boasts a steak that will knock your socks off.
Their commitment to what’s in season is simply outstanding, and paired with the freshest grub you can get – you really cannot go wrong.
These guys even boast a surprise menu that you needn’t be scared of – because you know you’re in some of the safest hands in the business.
I couldn’t recommend this beauty more – and would also recommend definitely not doing 80km/h down their driveway…
