A Tourist Has Died Following Fall At Giant’s Causeway

An American tourist died on Tuesday morning following an incident at the Giant’s Causeway, the website for the landmark has confirmed.

The incident happened within the visitors centre and the exact details are unknown at this stage.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 11:06 on Tuesday 19 June 2018 following reports of a male who had fallen and sustained a head injury in the vicinity of the Causeway Road, Bushmills.

A spokesperson said “NIAS despatched an Emergency Ambulance crew to the incident. Following initial assessment and treatment at the scene, one patient was transported to Causeway Hospital.”

It is believed that the man was in his 70’s and was on holiday with his wife. He passed away at the Causeway Hospital in the early hours of this morning.

A National Trust spokesperson this afternoon said “We can confirm that a visitor was treated following an incident at the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre on Tuesday 19th June.

“The NI Ambulance Service was in attendance and the visitor was taken to hospital. We are aware of the sad news that the visitor has since passed away and would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family”

The Belfast Telegraph states that the man was believed to be from America.
