The horrific story has dominated the headlines over the past week but chances are that the identity of the Tuam Babies would still be unknown if it wasn't for Galway woman Catherine Corless.

The amateur historian worked tirelessly for several years to expose the grim truth about Tuam's 'mother and baby home' and appeared on The Late Late Show last night to discuss the case.

Her invaluable contribution was recognised with a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience.

In a week where a hearing on the Tuam Babies had to be delayed due to lack of attendance by TDs, we need people like Catherine more than ever.

Fair play.
