Two Young People Remain Missing After Escaping From Youth Detention Centre

Sarah

Two youths remain at large after escaping from Oberstown Children’s Detention Centre in Lusk last night.

Three young offenders managed to run away from the campus after taking over a staff office in the centre last night, The Journal.ie reports.

One youth was found and returned to the centre, while two remain missing.

It comes just one day after the release of a report into Oberstown which recommended changes to height of the exterior fences, and increasing the thickness of the windows in order to prevent escapes.

Minister for children Katherine Zappone said the escape is “disappointing”.

There are currently 22 children serving detention in Oberstown, and seven in custody in the centre.
