UK company to suffer huge loss over 18,000 England World Cup winner t-shirts

This did not age well.

Dorset company Wholesale Clearance UK is in a bit of a pickle as they try to sell 18,000 t-shirts sporting the message “England, World Cup winners 2022”. The t-shirts, which mimic the England team’s World Cup jerseys, feature a further message of “It’s Finally Home” (which for anyone living under a rock, it is not).

England were knocked out of the World Cup on Saturday by France, suffering a 2-1 defeat. Karl Baxter of Wholesale Clearance UK had purchased the t-shirts before this match took place.

According to the Independent, Baxter intended to sell the jerseys for £29.99 each, but is unlikely to receive that in light of the fact that England have not won the World Cup. In a press release he said this of his predicament:

“I’m absolutely gutted that England has been knocked out of the World Cup.

“I have been really impressed with England’s performance in Qatar and was sure they would win this year’s tournament. When approached by a supplier to sell the shirts, I simply couldn’t say, ‘No.’

“But now I’ve been left with 18,000 shirts that say they’ve won, and I’m not sure what to do.

“I’d like to appeal to England fans to purchase one of the shirts, to keep it as a piece of history and a reminder of how well our team played throughout the tournament.

“While they haven’t won, they are still winners in my eyes.”

And that’s the main thing Karl.
