Met Éireann has this morning issued an updated Status Yellow weather warning. In place for 10 counties, forecasters have advised that heavy rainfall is on the way bringing with it the chance of localised flooding.
Issued this morning, the new warning covers Galway, Mayo, Cork, Kerry, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Tipperary and Waterford. Further spells of heavy rain with an additional 10 to 30mm are expected and people are being warned that river levels “may become elevated” and localised flooding “will continue to occur”.
Rain is expected to spread eastwards throughout the day, easing in the west during the afternoon but persisting in the east throughout the evening. Rain will continue overnight with patches of mist and fog also forming. Tomorrow will begin “largely dry and bright” though patchy rain and drizzle will develop with thickening cloud before more rainfall.
According to Met Éireann:
“The rain will become persistent and heavy as it slowly moves eastwards during the evening. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in fresh and gusty southerly winds, strong on coasts.”
A Status Yellow Gale Warning has also been issued with southerly winds expected to reach gale force 8 on all Irish coastal waters and the Irish Sea today.
