This really hits home.
According to recent housing figures, 9,872 people around the country were accessing emergency accommodation at the end of the month of June.
The Peter McVerry Trust have released a video which shows the reality of being homeless in Ireland.
‘Dean (not his real name) is 21 and has been homeless since November 2017. Dean started accessing Peter McVerry Trust’s homeless services in December 2017, though he has been in and out of homelessness since the age of 16.
Dean is currently residing in one of the charity’s services in Dublin.
Dean has written this spoken word piece, entitled “Paint Me”, which challenges the stereotypical views that people have on homelessness and the different routes to becoming homeless.
