The 'Grand Auld Stretch' Is Back And Irish People Are Losing Their Minds

By James Fenton

You may have noticed recently that the days are getting slightly longer which means Ireland's favourite conversation starter is back.

Coming out with 'Isn't there a grand aul' stretch in the evenings?' is a surefire way to break the ice with any Irish person at this time of year and people are already making the most of it.

Here's a selection of our favourite references:

Yeah, grand stretch...

Very stretchy...

Grand is NOT the word...

Fierce stretchy altogether...

Irish mams, wha?

Bit extreme...

Good one, Mam...

Bloody fine stretch, so it is...

Stretch Armstrong...

The stretchiest evening since stretchy evenings began...

And it's still only January 24th!

"Sure isn't spring just around the corner."

"This is it."

"Sure, look." etc etc.
