The Irish Sun is reporting that almost 3,000 Irish people have been losing out on money on Thursday after a mess-up in payment.
Irish carers did not receive their Carer’s Benefit payment on Thursday after nearly €600,000 was withheld.
The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection is currently looking into the matter and has no concrete evidence as to why the money wasn’t processed as normal.
Carers have been told to contact their local welfare office but they will be left out of pocket for the time being it seems.
The maximum weekly rate for someone caring for one person is €210 but people who receive Carer’s Allowance were not affected by the error.
A spokesman for the Department of Social Protection told the publication that it was providing those in need with emergency financial assistance and apologised for the situation.
