Nine Reasons To Head To Breathtaking Kenmare On Your Next Rural Getaway

Sarah

If you haven’t been to Kenmare, then we highly recommend you put it top on your list for a little escape this year.

Feel like some fresh seafood, craft beer and world famous views? Look no further my friend.

Kenmare’s Irish name, Neidin, means ‘little nest’ and once you visit, you’ll realise why.

This idyllic town is perfectly located for exploring the Ring of Kerry, with lots of walking trails to wander in the mountains.

With plenty of quaint cafes, lively pubs, and plush hotels, here’s just some of the reasons why Kenmare is one of our favourite spots in the country.

1. The sunset views

Situated right on Kenmare Bay, the views of the sun setting are out of this world.

Bonus points if you view it from the inside of a wooden boat <3

2. Packie’s restaurant

This cosy gem serves the freshest seafood and Irish produce, and you’ll be happily munching away surrounded by stone walls and a roaring fireplace.

3. Reenagross Park

Just LOOK at this breathtaking rhododendron tunnel in Kenmare’s nature hot-spot.

4. It’s a foodie paradise

Obsessed with organic produce? You can’t beat some woodland foraging for fresh mushrooms and berries, such as chantrelles and wild blueberries – just be careful with what you pick!

5. Skyline Gallery

The Skyline Gallery was set up to showcase the stunning photographic work of Eoghan Kavanagh, and features landscape photos of Kenmare and Kerry’s scenery.

6. It’s home to the Harry Potter’s ‘Kenmare Kestrels’

If you’re still a huuuge Harry Potter fan (as any sane person is), then you’ll appreciate that the Irish Quidditch team mentioned in The Order of the Phoenix, Kenmare Kestrels, is meant to be from this town.

7. Crowley’s Bar

A nice little place for a pint of Guinness and some trad music, Crowley’s has all the charm without the overcrowding of tourists.

8. Cromwell’s Bridge

This mystical gravity-defying stone bridge is an Instagram-worthy stop on a lovely walking trail.

9. Kenmare Farmers Market

Kenmare Farmers Market takes place from 10am-4pm every Wednesday in the Square.

With speciality food, craft, plants and fresh produce, this is a great location for a wander around and a bite to eat.
