There's just something magical about small islands.
These little paradises are blissfully disconnected from the rest of the world, free from its woes. And while you may think you have to venture all the way to the Caribbean the ideal haven, really you only have to look off the coast of Mayo to our very own Achill Island.
The largest island off the coast of Ireland, Achill boasts a majestic coast and numerous beauty spots, such as the Atlantic Drive route that follows the coastline, Annagh with the lowest corrie lake in Ireland and the secluded Keem Bay.
People have been drawn to the island for millennia, with habitation stretching all the way back to 3000BC, and the remains of islanders past can still be seen. Among the most significant of these historical reminders are the 16th century Tower at Kildavnet and the spooky Deserted Village, comprised of 80 stone cottages located at the foot of the Slievemore mountain.
There's a real charm to the place that apparent as soon as you lay eyes upon it...
