In addition to fascinating historical landmarks, great cafés and restaurants and some terrific art galleries, Kilkenny boasts an impressive brewing heritage, thanks to the impressive Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny.
Conveniently situated on the city’s Medieval Mile and a 10 minute stroll from Kilkenny Castle, the Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny invites guests to step into 300 years of brewing history.
If you’ve yet to visit this iconic Kilkenny institution then you’re in luck, as it’s set to be a sizzling summer at the Smithwick’s Experience.
With the Smithwick’s Experience, you’ll immerse yourself in 300 years of ale history through interactive experiences as you’re led by a local guide. Tickets for the experience start at €18 and that includes a guided tour, an ale-tasting session and a complimentary pint of Smithwick’s or a soft drink.

If you’d like to delve even deeper into Kilkenny’s brewing heritage, you can also book a spot on the brand new Masters of Ale Experience, a 75-minute guided sensorial tour, which includes a tasting masterclass and a pint-pouring tutorial.
This summer will also see the return of the Barrel Yard Sessions. Throughout the weekends of July and August, a host of talented musicians, DJ sets and food trucks will be hitting up the brewery’s historic barrel yard with delicious street food and live music.
