Northern Ireland announces plan to reopen indoor drinking and dining from June 1st

James Fenton

Northern Ireland ministers will today be asked to approve a number of key reopening dates starting from April 23.

Following on from a significant easing of restrictions in England, Scotland and Wales this week, Northern Ireland looks set to follow suit from Friday, April 23. From this date, it is proposed that hairdressers, beauty salons and outdoor attractions will reopen.

Then, from April 30, it is proposed that all retail and self-contained tourist accommodation can open up, followed by outdoor dining and gyms on May 10.

It is hoped that wedding receptions will be able to hold 30 guests from May 14 while indoor drinking and dining can return ‘not before June 1.’

Details will be outlined to assembly members at a special sitting today. The news comes after An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said that the Republic is “on track to ease restrictions from May 4.”
