A number of interesting new features are expected to come to WhatsApp next year.

WhatsApp is set to roll out a dark mode for messaging in the app, according to a report from TechRadar.

The dark mode feature has been rumoured to be in development for years and TechRadar’s glimpse at install files for the beta release show that it will likely be ready for public testing in the coming months.

Apparently, WhatsApp users will be able to switch to dark mode manually or have the messaging app switch automatically when battery-saving mode is enabled.

Also rumoured to be coming to WhatsApp is a function that will allow users to schedule messages to self-delete after a certain period of time.

According to WABetaInfo, the Disappearing Messages feature will enable users to decide whether sent messages delete automatically after one hour, one day, one week, one month or one year.

Advertisements are also expected to become more prevalent on WhatsApp in 2020, with ads set to appear on users’ status posts.

2020 will also see a version of WhatsApp become available on iPad. Up to now iPad users had to rely on the iPhone version of the app on their iPads but that’s due to change next year.
