15 Of The Hottest European Destinations For A City Break Before 2017 Is Over

niallharbison

Nothing beats getting away on a good city break and with summer upon us, we thought we’d give you a little inspiration when it comes to the best places to travel around Europe.

Most of these are a little off the beaten track and not as well established as the likes of Rome, London and Barcelona.

All you need is at least one friend and you’re ready to let your hair down and have the time of your life.

Pick one and enjoy…

1. Seville

Ignore Madrid and Barcelona and all the other parts of Spain that you could head to and choose this great spot for amazing cheap food and drink and a superb nightlife scene.

2. Antibes

Fly into Nice in the South of France and instead of heading to expensive Monaco or Cannes, base yourself here and explore the whole coast from Northern Italy down to the parties in St Tropez.

3. Lisbon

The city that people are absolutely raving about at the moment – thanks to its chilled out atmosphere, great late night partying and amazing foodie scene.

4. Budapest

Spend the days chilling out in the amazing baths and get ready for some hard-core partying in the evenings. The place is full of amazing bars and clubs that may take you by surprise.

5. Copenhagen

The people all look like supermodels and the parks are amazing during the summer. Time your trip to coincide with one of their music festivals and grab yourself a bike to explore the food markets.

6. Leuven

A small university town just outside Brussels in Belgium that has a really relaxed vibe but comes alive in the summer. Drink amazing beer at reasonable prices and explore the other Belgian cities from here.

7. Reykjavik

Such a unique spot in which to spend some time. It is slightly warmer in the summer than in the depths of winter, with plenty of places to explore, things to do and friendly people to meet.

8. Valetta

Malta is about as far south as you can go in Europe and we know all about the magic of this tiny island because we have a site there. The people are friendly, the nightlife lively and the sun pretty much always shines.

9. Dubrovnik

Obviously Croatia has been on the radar for a while but this city is one of the absolute jewels in the crown. Super shopping, great food and superb nightlife.

10. Tallinn

It’s best to come in the summer to avoid the incredibly harsh winters. Avoid the stag party areas and explore an amazing city that has super nightclubs, cheap drinks and lots to see and do in terms of history.

11. Marrakech

Ok, it might be stretching it a bit to say that this is in Europe but Ryanair do fly there from Dublin so that (kind of) counts. A brilliant assault on the senses with super food, friendly locals and it’s surprisingly affordable.

12. Sarajevo

The first thing you’ll most likely think is the wartorn past but, as with all cities that have had hard times, the place has an amazing edge and resilient people who love to party. Better still, it’s budget friendly.

13. Brighton

The South Coast of England gets weather as good as France at times and this is one of the best alternative towns in Europe with artists, great food and super lively nightlife.

14. Graz

Austria wouldn’t top the list for many in the non-skiing months but Graz is fast becoming one of the hottest cities to visit in Europe. Great festivals all summer, plenty of great beer and some awesome art experiences.

15. Bologna

Not as famous as cities nearby, like Florence, but that means plenty of space, loads of nice restaurants and open-air cafes for the evenings. A tonne to explore both day and night.
