15 Of The Greatest Architectural Landmarks In Ireland You Have To Visit

clodagh

One seriously underrated aspect of tourism is checking out the architecture of a city and seeing what gorgeous buildings and landmarks it has to offer.

In an attempt to rectify this, we’ve put together a list of some of the greatest architecture we have in our green isle so you can hit the road and enjoy it all for yourself.

From gates to castles to unreal houses, Ireland really has it all…

1. St. Colman’s Cathedral, Cork

A pretty magnificent church, if I do say so myself. Check out those spikes.

2. Wonderful Barn, Kildare

Built just after the Famine, this incredible barn has stood the aesthetic test of time.

3. Mussenden Temple, Derry

The views from this little building are equally as stunning as the temple itself.

4. Casino Marino, Dublin

It might not look like much, but there’s actually three floors and 16 rooms inside this gorgeous little house.

5. Swiss Cottage, Tipperary

You wouldn’t find this beauty on AirBnB.

6. Trinity College, Dublin

You have to admit that the building is a stunner, and right in the heart of the city.

7. Cahir Castle, Tipperary

One of the biggest castles in Ireland is also one of the most beautiful.

8. Kylemore Abbey, Galway

If you haven’t visited Kylemore Abbey yet, then what are you even doing in Ireland?

9. D’Olier Chambers, Dublin

Now home to Gallagher’s Bistro, this building is one my personal favourites.

10. Dunleckney Manor, Carlow

Visit this house for the staircase alone.

12. Knox-Gore Monument, Mayo

This eery Gothic-inspired monument in Mayo supposedly had a waterless moat surrounding it to accommodate the burial of a horse. Interesting.

13. St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Cavan

Another cathedral that is seriously underrated and the Cavan scenery is pretty beautiful.

14. Queen’s University, Belfast

A university where you could quite happily spend all day staring at the building instead of going to lectures.

15. Dublin Castle, Dublin

While it may not be a traditional castle, it’s a beauty nonetheless.
