Five of the most disappointing tourist attractions

Alan Fisher

There are plenty of them out there but here are five of the most disappointing tourist attractions I have visited.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel quite a bit and I’ve seen some amazing sites.

I was blown away by Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Vegas the first time I went and the Eiffel Tower but I have been wildly disappointed a few times.

Maybe you had a different experience when you went or maybe I’m just a miserable piece of filth, either way here are five of the most disappointing tourist attractions I’ve seen:

1) Cancun

Is this a tourist attraction? Or just a place to visit?

Either way, I disliked the strip very much.

It looks stunning when you are flying into it but it’s a totally different story on the ground.

Yes, the beach is nice (ish) but I went for an all-inclusive and I was extremely bored after two days.

I felt like I was being kept captive on my holidays.

The few times I did go out to see what the strip had to offer I was shocked.

The main square, if you could call it that, is crap. There are a couple of bars that I wouldn’t bother with and I didn’t exactly feel safe walking around.

If you like staying in your hotel all day I recommend the Cancun strip. If you want a bit more I recommend going tp Tulum, Playa Del Carmen, and Isla Mujeres.

2) Mona Lisa

Ok, so I’m definitely not any sort of art expert but I do enjoy certain museums.

I had a great time walking around The Louvre but the entire time you’re thinking, ‘I can’t wait to see the Mona Lisa’.

The Louvre is a big place so getting to the Mona Lisa after a lot looking around to find a picture that looks maybe A4 size (might be exaggerating here) is disappointing.

I don’t know why I was expecting something so much bigger but I was.

3) Hollywood Walk of Fame

I don’t know why this area is so glorified.

I’d actually politely say ‘thanks, but no thanks’ if I was an A-lister getting my name down.

They are just names on a street, and the street is nothing special.

Even if you spot a start you like, there is a massive anti-climatic feeling.

If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t bother going near the Hollywood hills as it’s up there with the worst of the disappointing tourist attractions.

4) Maya Bay

I’m sure when Leonardo Di Caprio was there filming The Beach it was a bloody lovely unspoiled private Island.

Now, thanks to the movie, it is one of the hottest tourist attractions in Thailand.

First of all, it’s nothing more spectacular than some of the other bays around Thailand and if you’re in Vietnam Halong Bay is far nicer.

On top of that, your wrestling with hundreds of tourists on this small island.

It’s hard to even get a nice pic for the gram with all the people.

Cheers, Leo.

5) Manneken Pis

Goodness, gracious, don’t even bother.

Can you even spot it in the photo?

Spend your time in Brussels eaten chocolate and drinking beer.

I mean if you pass it, have a look (that’s if you can see it), but don’t go out of your way.

It’s even smaller than the Mona Lisa, and that’s saying something.

Some attractions are just hyped up so much that when you get to them they end up disappointing you. At least, after reading this your hopes might not be as high.
