Ireland’s Top 10 “Best Places” Have Been Revealed

James Fenton

Have you ever stood at the top of Carrauntoohil or glanced across the valleys of Glendalough and thought “there’s no better place to be in Ireland than this”?

Well, sorry, but you’re wrong.

That’s according to the Royal Town Planning Institute whose independent panel of judges has compiled a list of Ireland’s Best Places, narrowed down from 95 nominations.

The aim is to decide which area ranks as ‘Ireland’s Best Place’, a result which will be determined by a public vote.

The shortlist is as follows…

  • Abbeyleix, Co Laois;
  • Cobh, Co Cork;
  • Cork city centre;
  • Dingle, Co Kerry;
  • Grand Canal Square in Dublin;
  • Great Western Greenway, Co Mayo;
  • Greystones, Co Wicklow;
  • Kilkenny city centre;
  • Lough Boora Parklands, Co Offaly
  • and Tully Cross, Co Galway

If you’re familiar any of the places and feel they deserve your vote, you can get behind them via this link. Voting closes on October 12.
