Curiosity. That’s what drives us all to seek out the best hotels and destinations, the most wonderful cities, the islands worth shouting about. We are always in touch with our network of writers and editors around the world about their new finds, the under-the-radar hangouts we think you need to know about. But we’re also very aware that you, as the reader, love to travel, and get to all sorts of places, making all-new discoveries. This is why we call on you year after year to let us know which places and players you admire the most. For our 32nd annual Readers' Choice Awards survey you were louder than ever. A record 600,000 registered voters weighed in, and your responses can be found across the pages of our November issue. Stay tuned this week as we roll out all of your favorite places in the world on our feed and stories. #RCA2019 📷: @squirefox

Quite an achievement considering that there are just under 200 countries in the world.

The awards, now in their 32nd year, saw 600,000 registered voters weigh in an make their voices be heard on what they consider to be ‘the best’ within a given range of categories.

Topping the list were Indonesia, Thailand and Portugal with Sri Lanka and South Africa following close behind to complete the top five.

Winners were picked according to readers’ travel experiences of the world’s countries and Ireland’s ranking within the top 20 is a testament to the country’s thriving tourism and hospitality industry.

With some of the world’s most stunning views and loads of craic to boot, it’s no surprise that everyone loves Ireland as much as we do.
