This Gorgeous Spa Hotel Is The Ultimate Treat For A Weekend Getaway

Sarah

What better way to escape all the worries of the 9-5 working gal life than a last-minute spa trip down the country?

My destination of choice for this recent me-time getaway was ultra scenic The Brehon, a four star beaut with views over the Kerry mountains, and a spa specially designed to wash all your cares away. Perfect.

Tinkling music from a piano greeted us as we arrived at the hotel, the fires in the lobby were roaring, and we instantly knew it was going to be an absolutely heavenly stay.

Right outside Killarney town, you’ll find this rural retreat…

This luxury hotel is built in a traditional style, with country house styling alongside modern touches, including the top notch Angsana Spa.

My room had breathtaking views over Killarney National Park, the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept in, and a huge marble bathtub.

Oh, and soft cosy robes of course, ’cause it’s not a spa break without the joy of lounging around in your robe all day, is it?

An afternoon in the Vitality Suite is utterly dreamy

For over 18s only (in other words, there’s no shrieking kids splashing in the water), the Angsana Spa contains all you need for a relaxing afternoon, and this is where I spent the majority of the weekend.

With features such as these, can you blame me?

~ Herb Sauna
~ Crystal Steam Room
~ Ice Fountain
~ Hot & Cold Spa
~ Tropical Shower
~ Kubledusche
~ Vitality Pool with Underwater Seating & Hydro Therapy Jets

Each therapist in the spa has been professionally trained at The Banyan Tree Spa Academy in Phuket, Thailand, and their natural approach to treatments is right up my street – think fresh flowers and organic ingredients.

I went for the signature Angsana massage, a 90 minute full body massage designed to release your inner ‘qi’, working vital pressure points.

Over an hour of expert pummelling and my muscles were soothed and my soul at ease.

A magic massage if there ever was one.

Followed by an hour lounging in the lobby reading by the fire…

The best part about dedicating an entire weekend to chilling out is that you don’t feel guilty for really letting yourself relax.

Want to go for a mid-morning nap after breakfast (which, by the way, was SO good – with options of Eggs Benny ‘n’ all), feel free.

Fancy reading your book by the fire before dinner? You do you. I hadn’t allowed myself to really disconnect in ages, but The Brehon provided the perfect place to de-stress and spoil myself.

Hungry? You’ll be well looked after here

The first night we popped into Killarney town for a wander around, eating in the seriously delish Lord Kenmares. A seafood platter and Kerry mountain lamb were washed down with a great pint of Guinness, and the town was buzzing.

Our second night we were feeling significantly lazier, with the thoughts of leaving our cocoon in the hotel too much to bear.

We’d booked in to the Danú Restaurant in the hotel, and it genuinely wowed. A starter of scallops were tender and plump, with a topping of salty fried lardo draped over them.

Again, we were wooed by the Kerry lamb, which came with an aubergine ratatouille and hazelnut sauce. Pink and tasty and very, very good. The restaurant itself is nicely upscale, yet friendly local staff made us feel right at home.

And drinks in any of the bars in town will guarantee a night of craic

Not gonna lie, we hardly left the hotel on this little trip… Local bars in town are known to be great craic though, with live music and a great mix of locals and tourists.

Fan of Lord Of The Rings? You have got to check out The Shire Bar, a Hobbit themed bar complete with LOTR beers and a random guy who dresses up as Golum.

And of course, it’s just not a trip to Kerry without a stroll outside to admire the mountains

We did venture out for a little explore, what with the famous Kerry scenery right on the doorstep.

Killarney National Park is a gorge spot for a leisurely stroll, with views of Carrauntoohil mountain and the lakes, as well as an old castle and horse and carts trotting past every few minutes.

It’s worth a trip to Killarney for the views alone.

The only problem? You won’t want to leave

I could have happily spend an entire week here, living my best life and finishing allll those books I know I’ll never get around to now.

The Brehon is the perfect place to head to if you need a getaway – spa, plush rooms, and excellent food, you’ll find it all here.
