This Irish Couple Have Taken On A Mammoth 3,750km Journey Through Ireland

Finding a hobby that both you and your significant other actually have in common is always a bonus.

You both get to do something you love and have each others company at the same time. Perfect!

For many of us, it might involve heading to the gym or binging on Game Of Thrones but one Irish couple is taking things to a while new level.

Adventurous Carl Lange and Ellie Berry have taken on the huge goal of tackling The National Waymarked Trails this year.

The trails are a network of medium and long-distance walking routes around our Ireland, perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors and hikes.

With 43 trails covering over a whopping 3,750km, the couple have already completed 18 since April. Impressive.

Speaking to Lovin.ie, Carl said that the idea came to the couple to see more of the country they both have grown up in.

“Ellie and I have done a lot of travelling, and we often found that people would tell us how lovely they found Ireland and how beautiful it was.

“We’ve always loved being outdoors (when we thought to do this, we were living in a tent outside Paris, rock climbing), so walking every trail in Ireland seemed to be a really good way to see the country we’re a part of.”

We’re in awe at some of the amazing shots that the dynamic duo have captured on their wild adventures so far.

Take a look at some of them for yourself…

Carl, an Irish-German software developer and rock climber, and girlfriend Ellie, an Irish photographer based in Dublin, are keeping a detailed log of their Tough Soles travels through video, photography and a blog.

While some elements of the journey can be tough, the two have praised the generosity of the people around Ireland that they have met on their travels.

“What sticks out by far is how incredible people have been,” explained Carl.

“We’ve had people open pubs just to give us a cup of coffee and their mother’s apple tart. We’ve had countless lifts from people bringing us to the starts or from the ends of each trail, because neither of us drive. We’ve had people give us a single egg for the road, or an offer of a free shower in the next town.”

Carl and Ellie are tackling their 19th trail (The Dingle Way) at the moment but you can check out their Dublin Mountains Way video below.

You can follow Tough Soles on their Twitter, Instagram, Youtube and check out their website, toughsoles.ie

Have you done any of these trails yourself?
