Dear reader, we are shook.
One of the most glorious of all the many tourist attractions on our fair isle has been named by Irish Times readers as one of “the most overrated and underwhelming tourist attraction” they have ever visited.
Our very own basalt stone wonderland? The same place where Fionn mac Cumhaill defeated some aggro Scottish giant by dressing up as a baby? Apparently so.
A survey by The Irish Times asked people to rate the tourists attractions they had visited that left them seriously disappointed, and the Giant’s Causeway received the most number of mentions.
It was “a very long walk for a small gathering of rocks ,” said Dean Healy – let us add there is in fact about 40,000 of those rocks.
“Can a million people be wrong?”
Alderman Norman Hillis, of the Causeway Coast & Glens Council, told the Irish Independent that he was “absolutely outraged” to hear that the Causeway had gotten such bad press.
“Can a million people be wrong? Because that’s how many visitors we’re expecting to come to the Giant’s Causeway this year,” he said.
“It’s unique, it’s absolutely stunning and I honestly can’t believe how anyone could say it’s underwhelming or overrated.
We have to agree. It’s a natural miracle.
What do you think of the Giant’s Causeway?
