Ennis in county Clare has just been named as the friendliest place in Ireland at Retail Ireland's Excellence Awards.

The awards ceremony took place on Saturday night and aims to mark the "significant contribution being made by retailers, city and county councils in driving standards."

The winner was picked by the county councils and local enterprise offices nominating their towns.

CEO of Retail Excellence, David Fitzsimons, said, "Ireland is renowned the world over for its warm welcome and hospitality to all.

"This is particularly evident in retail operations throughout every village, town and city in the country and Ennis demonstrates this in adundance."

Mr Fitzsimons congratulated Ennis and Clare County Council for their massive achievement and to commend them "for their very significant efforts."
