22 Comfort Foods You Have To Eat In London Before You Die

With everything from high end restaurants through to amazing takeaways and different cultural influences across the city it can be hard to know where to start eating in London. Fear not though because we’ve come up with the most incredible list of 22 dishes that you simply have to work your way through. You could be a tourist or have lived in this great city your entire life but either way you will die happily if you work your way through all of these!

1.Motherflipper – Breakfast Bap

You’ll find these guys on the weekend in Brockley market (and various other spots if you keep an eye on their social media). Get one of these into you and any hangover will vanish instantly.

2.Cay Tre – Beef Pho

It takes over 18 hours to make this incredible dish and once you start sipping at the broth in this Vietnamese Soho restaurant you’ll be transported to another planet in terms of flavour.

3.Monty’s Deli – The Reuben

Justbeside Tower Bridge tube station and you’ll want to get here early as they sell out quick and when its gone its gone. One for those of you who like tons of topping in a sambo.

4.Poppies – Fish And Chips

They’verestaurants in Spittafields and Camden and this old school styled spot does some of the very best fish and chips in town! Load up on the salt and vinegar!

5.Meat Liquor – The Buffalo Chicken Burger

They’ve been popping up all over London and beyond in recent months and although better known for their beef we would plump for this insanely good chicken burger any day of the week. Spicy and delicious.

6.Herman Ze German – The Wurst

The king of all things German in the capital and the large sausages are a meal in themselves. Big, juicy and served with salad or in a bap these will make your entire day once you bite in!

7.Duck And Waffle – The Signature Dish

Its a combination that when you first hear about it you wonder if the world has gone mad. Bite into the skinless confit duck, the lush pancakes and the egg and you’ll be in heaven. Try it out.

8.Scoop – Ice Cream In A Glitzy Cone

Often named the best ice cream in London and always has a queue which is a great sign. Head down to covent garden and load that cone up!

9.The Orange Buffalo – Dozen Chicken Wings

We reckon these are the best chicken wings in London. Served from a food truck on Shoreditch you’ll need a beer to wash them down with!

10.Kerb – The Brisket In A Bap

Amazing casual street style food here and although everything is amazing you have to try the brisket to believe it! Off the charts good!

11.Barrafina – The Classic Tortilla

One of the simplest things to cook in the world but taken to a whole new level by this incredible restaurant. You have to taste it to believe just how good it is as the soft gooey interior oozes out onto the plate.

12.Bob’s Lobster – The Lobster Rolls

Dashing men serving lobster rolls out of an old converted camper van. Doesn’t get much better!

13.Bad Brownie – Salted Caramel

A market stall that travels throughout the week. You can see where they are at here. Don’t head to them on a diet though as these are sinfully bad for you but who cares!

14.Hix Soho – The Sunday Roast

Get it with all the trimmings and have food like your mum used to cook but done to a whole new standard. The ultimate Sunday roast.

15.Crosstown Doughnuts – Any of them!!!

Now available in over 20 locations across the capital. Do we really need to explain to you why you need to eat one of these right now?

16.The Nordic Bakery – Cinnamon Bun

Danish pastries come from the Nordics so as you would expect they are pretty good at them in here! Check out the cinnamon bun with a nice coffee for an incredible treat!

17.Pitt Cue Co – Lamb Neck

BBQ joints are a dime a dozen all over London and most big cities these days. Absolutely nobody comes close to what the guys do here. They have a true love for meat and everything they make is superb but the lamb has to be tasted to be believed.

18.Wahaca – Fish Tacos

The problem when eating here is always choosing between all their amazing dishes. The fish tacos are the perfect comfort food with a great mixture of spice and crunchy fish. Perfect to pick up in the hand too.

19.Cinnamon – The Balls

In the heart of Soho this is Indian food is presented in an entirely new way. The balls are mixture of crab and potato with amazing dipping sauces.

20.The Ship – Scotch Egg

A proper pub in Wansworth with proper food. The scotch egg is served with brown sauce and washed down with a big cold beer you’ll be thinking all is OK in the world once again!

21.Goddard’s – Pie And Mash

A real English classic and we love that they don’t mess around with it in this pub in Greenwich and serve it up with the juices exactly as it should be. No fancy garnishes or anything getting in the way of a world class feed!

22.Cheeky Italian @ Brockley Market – Beef Poutine

The award winning weekly food market is the place to be on the weekends. The only problem is choosing what to eat and how much you can fit in. We’d suggest you go with this incredible dish. You won’t regret it!
