Dublin Airport yesterday released a new version of its app which includes a new flight tracking feature- the first of its kind for an airport app. Dublin Airport really have their fingers on the pulse and are constantly winning awards for their innovations and services- last year they won the world's Best Airport Twitter Feed in the Moodies awards for airport digital communications for the second year in a row; and most recently won the World Routes Award for airports that handle between 20 million and 50 million passengers per year at the World Routes 2014 conference in Chicago.
The new flight tracking feature is supported by Flightradar24 who are the market leaders in global flight tracking data. The update allows users of the Dublin Airport app to track flights in real-time coming in and out of Dublin Airport. The Flightradar24 feature also provides additional information including aircraft altitude and the speed and type of aircraft.
There have been over 90K downloads since the Dublin Airport App was first released a year ago with flight arrivals and departures being the most popular pages visited by users. And I've no doubt this new service will calm the nerves of many parents and loved ones of frequent, long haul and nervous fliers.
