If you always look for the ‘free range’ label when shopping for eggs in your local shop, you might have a bit of trouble finding them later this month.
According to The Irish Independent, regulations introduced by the Department Of Agriculture to contain the spread of bird flu mean that all poultry currently have to be confined to a secure building, away from wild birds.
12 wild birds have tested positive for bird flu in Ireland since the end of December.
As a result, no eggs can be labelled as ‘free range’ from March 17 so you’ll notice a bit of a change from the end of the month.
